FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS SAVING SUNNY?

Saving Sunny works to reduce the flow of dogs into the shelter system by providing education, resources, and advocacy for people and their pets regardless of socioeconomic status, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, age, or ability. We do that by providing free and low-cost resources to pet owners so that they may keep their pets in their homes. Saving Sunny also hosts educational and promotional events, and supports local shelters with pet adoptions.

CAN I ADOPT A DOG FROM SAVING SUNNY?

Yes. We have a courtesy posting program that connects dogs in need of rehoming with families looking for a new pet.

DOES SAVING SUNNY HELP WITH FINANCIAL AID?

Our mission is to reduce the flow of dogs into the shelter system. This includes assisting with financial aid for those who cannot afford life-saving surgeries and/or procedures that can result in surrendering a pet.

WHAT IF I FIND A DOG IN TROUBLE?

It is always important to contact your local animal control authorities when you find a stray, or know of neglect or abuse happening to an animal. Louisville Metro Animal Services can be reached at 502.473.7387. Saving Sunny can typically only offer advice in these circumstances, and since we are run by a network of volunteers, we often cannot respond to urgent situations immediately.

DOES SAVING SUNNY RESCUE DOGS FROM THE SHELTER?

Saving Sunny does not place dogs in our own foster care program regularly as in our previous years. Although we will do this on a small scale on a case by case basis, our focus is keeping pets in their homes, preventing them from ever entering the shelter in the first place. Saving Sunny will always take our formerly adopted dogs back into our program and evaluate their needs, and assist our shelter partners with foster and adoption matches.

WHAT IF I CAN'T TAKE CARE OF MY DOG ANYMORE?

We know that there are circumstances that can lead to a family needing to surrender their pet. While we cannot take your dog from your home, we can help you by courtesy posting your pet for adoption.

DOES SAVING SUNNY HELP CATS?

Saving Sunny is a dog-based animal welfare organization. Although we may have cat food donated at our Community Dog Resource Center at any given time, our funding exists to prevent dogs from entering the shelter system.
